About This Website

I started building this website back in 2022 and have been improving it on an ongoing basis ever since. It's built with React, Next.js and Netlify (you can find the source code in my GitHub repository). Over the years the tech-stack has evolved quite a bit, so here is a quick look behind the scenes...

Content & Images
The site no longer relies on a CMS at runtime. All content now lives in plain JSON files right inside the codebase, so updating the website is as easy as editing a file. Images and videos are stored alongside the code and served through the Netlify Image CDN, which resizes and optimizes them on the fly for every device.

Latest feature: AI Chat
The newest addition is an AI chat that you can open right from the stage. It works like this: the website talks to a Netlify Function, which in turn talks to Cursor Cloud, where an agent answers your questions about me and my work in real time.

If you have any questions or comments regarding this topic, please do not hesitate to contact me.

FAQ

  • Not really. The difference between an average dev and a professional will stay the same, whether both use AI or not. The way a developer works has changed, but experience is still important.

  • A few patterns I've learned to watch out for:

    • Client is unwilling to commit to an MVP (biggest marker by far)
    • Devs hesitate to take over tasks
    • Daily standup takes longer than 15 minutes
    • Meetings are not properly moderated
    • No ownership — the whole team is responsible instead of a single person
    • Estimations are done with the entire dev team
    • Information and requirements are thrown at everyone
    • Fewer than one retrospective per month
    • The PO tries to keep work away from themselves
    • The PO is unwilling to make decisions
  • The biggest challenges I've faced are:

    • Managing a team of 5 developers and handling 7 projects with 4 different clients at the same time, all while working only 32h/week
    • 3 weeks to launch the s.Oliver webshop - which normally takes months
    • Taking over legacy code - before there was AI
    • Handling a client who is not willing to commit to an MVP
    • Working in projects that are completely mismanaged
  • I've worked several years in backend and have a good understanding of data-flow, architecture, security, etc. But ...

    • frontend is more rewarding, since you get something visual in the end
    • you can exceed expectations more easily, compared to backend, where the expectation is simply, that it works
    • it is more challenging, since you need to understand not just everything that's important in backend, but also UX and how the browser works
  • I completed Agile Coach training (at Judith Andresen) because I love team dynamics and SCRUM. However, I found that in 90% of cases, the person hiring you is a manager with their own view of AGILE, which often turns the role into constant debate rather than real progress. That said, I would still love to support a company as an agile coach—I'm confident I have the skills and experience to guide the transformation of a team or even an entire company.
